Renewing Commitments to Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR)

On 21-25 January 2014, the 7th Asia Pacific Conference on Reproductive and Sexual Health and Rights (APCRSHR) workshop was held in Manila. This year’s theme was “Examining Achievements, Good Practices and Challenges: Towards a Strategic Positioning of SRHR for all” and featured several speakers from various countries, one of which was Indonesia. This activity was held at the Philippines International Convention Center (PICC) in Manila, Philippines. One of WRI’s researchers had the opportunity to be a speaker at the event.

The High Level Panel of Eminent Person on Post 2015 Development Agenda


The Youth Multi-stakeholder Meeting on 24 March 2013 at Swisbell Hotel Bayview Nusa Dua, Bali is part of the parallel process prior to the UN High Level Panel of Eminent Person on Post 2015 Development Agenda meeting. This meeting was held by the Indonesian Youth Working Group, of which the Women Research Institute (WRI) is a member. Ayu Anastasia and Rahayuningtyas represented WRI in the meeting. The High Level Panel meeting discussed strategies to achieve the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). MDGs is highly relevant to the lives of youths, which becomes the reason for the involvement of youths in the policy-making process of the Post-2015 Development Agenda.

Capacity building activities for WRI staff have been designed to boost their confidence as well as increase their competency in formulating, implementing, and monitoring an appropriate or workable strategy, and evaluate its effects within a certain time period. As a research institute, WRI staff must obtain adequate experience to implement qualitative research as well as qualitative research. Also, acquaire competency in doing profound analyzes in order to contribute to the improvement of the quality of the condition and position of women in Indonesia. Therefore, WRI staff attended the Conference and the Workshop at the Summer Institute on Migration (SIM) on Quezon City, Philippines, May 6-29, 2007.

In relation to the development of the curricula and training plan, Health Services Program (HSP) and Women Research Institute (WRI) during the next six-month period will organized 14 workshops in districts namely: (1) Serang; (2) Tangerang; (3) Jakarta Barat; (4) Jember; (5) Malang; (6) Aceh Barat; (7) Aceh Besar; (8) Banda Aceh; (9) Deli Serdang; (10) Medan; (11) Sumedang; (12) Kota Bandung; (13) Bogor; (14) Aceh Jaya and (15) Kediri. However, referring to the condition of districts and cities, the plan to conduct the training in six-month period had to be extended until November 2007.

Based on the agreement between Health Services Program (HSP) and Women Research Institute (WRI) during the project period from November 1 to 30, 2007, the two institutions will organized 14 workshops in districts namely: 1) Serang; 2) Tangerang; 3) Malang; 4) Jember; 5) Aceh Barat; 6) Aceh Besar; 7) Banda Aceh; 8) Deli Serdang; 9) Medan; 10) Sumedang; 11) Kota Bandung; 12) Bogor; 13) Aceh Jaya and 14) Kediri. HSP and WRI had conducted all the 14 workshops during April to end of August 2007.
